Nice podcast, but Abner Doubleday did not invent baseball. There is no single inventor of baseball; it arose from a mix of games similar to baseball called “townball,” which loosely based off of the British games Rounders and Cricket. The New York Knickerbockers were the first team that codified the rules that became popular among teams in the Atlantic Coast, and then its popularity spread from there. The legend of Abner Doubleday has no merit, he is on record that he never made the claim, and in fact he probably never even saw a formal game of baseball. Though that said, Abner was a real civil war hero.
