MTG Radio: Episode 4
Tentacle Talk (In reference to Disk)
Nationals Musings: US Nationals is filled with Control and Jund (or Jund-esk) decks. Most surprising (and interesting) seems to be Mark Hendrickson’s creature less “Red White” control deck. As well as the Mannequin control decks that have popped up, created by the renowned Conley Woods. Other nations seemed to be more populated with Mono white Kithkin or White Weenie. Even Elf Ball made a big splash due to the emergence of Elvish Archdruid. A surprising new deck that has seem some love (and even won Finnish Nationals) is Time Sieve Combo. Turns out Charels Gindy was good enough to get there in The US winning with his cruel control deck, slightly mirroring the win in Italy by Luca Ravegli! But there were some key differences between the two decks, Luca chose to run one Baneslayer Angel, a Bogardian Hellkite, and a Broodmate Dragon over three Broodmates the in Gindy’s deck. While Gindy ran two Ajani Vengant over Luca’s two Agony Warp. A surprise from France though as Mongilardi Gilles wins with and elf deck that isn’t exploding! He played Elf rock in a top eight with three Faeries, two Blightnings, a Jund Cascade, and a Time Sieve Combo (piloted buy Oliver Ruel).
Standard with M10: Boy things sure have changed. Or not. It seems as of yet that most decks are in the air and the development process is still greatly underway. With this constantly shifting environment it is curious if a top tier meta game will emerge before ZEN. Currently, MTG Radio is working on building a (completely for fun) Grindingless Blue/Black mill using cards like Tome Scour, Memory Sluice, Nemesis of Reason, and Mind Funeral. The deck is still in the building process but updates are sure to come.
EDH, as always: Not much has changed in the world of EDH. At U.S. Nations there was a EDH game played with Lurking Predators, and it was a supposed all-star. Personally, the Wort the Raidmother Deck has been updated with Skullclamp (Broh-ken), Mwonvuli Acid Moss, and some token generators. Nice combo, Eternal Witness, Skullclamp, and Nature’s Spiral (or Recollect, Regrowth, etc) with Wort out. Equip Witness, draw two, play Nature’s Spiral and conspire it, returning Witness and another permanent card. (or, if you have regrowth, return Witness and another awesome spell.)
Creature a legendary creature that would make a good, yet not broken EDH general. Bonus points if it is mono colored, and extra bonus points if it is a goat.
